Kick the Tires Month

January is the time to check under the hood and kick the tires on your Medicare Supplement plan.

If You Stayed with Your Current Supplement

The Part B Deductible Reset: Remember that the Medicare Part B deductible resets every January 1. For 2026, this amount is $284. If your plan doesn’t cover the deductible
(like Plan G), expect to pay this for your first few doctor visits of the year.

Review Your Premium: Supplement premiums can change. Take a look at your new monthly rate. If it has increased significantly, it might be time for a “tune-up” comparison to see if other carriers offer the same standardized benefits for less.

Check Your Part D : While your Supplement doesn’t change, your Part D drug plan often does. Ensure your
preferred pharmacy is still “in-network” and check the new $2,100 out-of-pocket cap for 2026.

If You’re Moving to a New Supplement Carrier

Confirm Your “Green Light”: If you’ve switched carriers, make sure you have your new ID card and have notified your doctors.

Auto-Pay Alignment: Ensure your old policy’s bank draft has stopped and the new one is set up so you don’t
have a lapse in coverage.

Standardized Benefits: Rest easy knowing that a “Plan G” with Company A provides the exact same medical
coverage as a “Plan G” with Company B
