Doing Hard Things: The “Everything Hurts” Run Club
At Core 360 Benefits Group, our commitment to the community is personal. Our journey began in the halls of Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, where our son, Cade, battled Medulloblastoma with a bravery that continues to inspire us today.
The Heart of Our Mission

During Cade’s treatment—including surgery, chemotherapy, radiation and a month in the stem cell transplant unit—the Child Life Department was our anchor. Their mission to provide safety, normalcy, and a sense of “being special” to children facing the unthinkable is why we do what we do.
Cade lost his battle shortly before his fourth birthday, but his spirit lives on through the Cade Filer Endowed Fund for Child Life in Hematology and Oncology.
From Birthday Parties to the Pavement
For ten years, our community came together for an annual birthday party that celebrated childhood while raising vital funds. As of the end of 2025, thanks to the overwhelming support of local businesses and schools, the endowment has grown to over $125,000.
As we look toward the future, we are evolving our efforts. The “Everything Hurts” Run Club is our newest chapter.
Why “Everything Hurts”?

Distance running and ultramarathons are grueling. They require us to endure discomfort and push past our limits. We run because we can—and we do “hard things” in honor of the kids at Children’s Mercy who do hard things every single day.
Coming in 2026: We are currently planning our inaugural event. Whether you are a seasoned ultra-competitor or a local distance runner, we invite you to join us in building the Cade Filer Endowed Fund and supporting the incredible Child Life team at Children’s Mercy.
